Game Institute

The Game Institute™ is the leading provider of online professional training exclusively in the field of video game production. The courses offered are designed to teach hands-on game programming skills by having a student actually build his/her own game engine and supporting tools. Most Game Institute courses are approved for undergraduate college credit.

The Game Institute was founded by Joseph J. Meenaghan and a small team of video game programmers in New York and the UK in 2001. It has sold tens of thousands of courses to students all around the world since that time. They offer students the opportunity to take Game Institute courses directly from their web site or through one of their education partners for those who want to earn a degree or certificate in game development.

They teach the most important skills for anyone interested in a career in the field of video game, simulation or animation development.

Lua

Lua is a powerful, fast, lightweight, embeddable scripting language.

Lua combines simple procedural syntax with powerful data description constructs based on associative arrays and extensible semantics. Lua is dynamically typed, runs by interpreting bytecode for a register-based virtual machine, and has automatic memory management with incremental garbage collection, making it ideal for configuration, scripting, and rapid prototyping.

Lua is designed, implemented, and maintained by a team at PUC-Rio, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Lua was born and raised at Tecgraf, the Computer Graphics Technology Group of PUC-Rio, and is now housed at Lablua. Both Tecgraf and Lablua are laboratories of the Department of Computer Science of PUC-Rio.
